The antibody reacts with 170 - 220 kD cell surface glycoproteins (CD45), the Leukocyte Common Antigen (LCA), expressed selectively on hematopoietic cells. It gives a pronounced staining on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded cells, and can be used to differentiate between lymphomas and carcinomas.
